'We know! Now how about you get that train out of here, it's about as long as your ego!"
-Jack on Gordon's Express
Jack is a tank engine of Arthur's class who was bought from another railway by Sir Topham Hatt. He was originally a shunting engine working in various yards across the Island of Sodor, but he eventually moved on to pulling long goods trains along the main line, which he enjoys very much.

Personality[]
When Jack arrived on Sodor, he was shy and learning to adapt to the new engines and vehicles all around him. But he soon plucked up courage and became fast friends with Arthur and Stepney. Jack has now become an engine who is energetic and full of life, so much in fact that he jokes about how he almost bounces off the rails when he is excited! He also has a bit of a short temper, as seen when he is threatened or scared. He finds engines like James who are a bit snooty to be annoying, and sometimes he is annoyed when Gordon is bragging about his express (We know, we know!) or when Diesel is causing trouble. He also likes the snow, and thinks his snowplow is cozy, much to the annoyance of Thomas. When he was assigned to help said engine, he immediately collected more of a can-do attitude and was happy to teach the new Station Pilots. Now he is happy to be of service and is ready for anything.
Bio[]
Jack was built by a mysterious man in an old workshop. Back then, he was considered a 'bad steamer' and would usually daydream on the job. One time he almost exploded due to bad coal on his old railway. After this, he was left on an old siding for almost a year before one boy meddled with his controls and sent him down the main line, causing him to be loaded onto a ship bound for Sodor. He did not know this, as he had fallen asleep whilst he was driving. He then woke up after he heard the noises of his ship. When he got to the railway, he noticed he was on another railway, causing him to be shy in front of all the other engines. He eventually adapted to the railway and went all around Sodor looking for shunting jobs. After this, he became a main line engine, and pulled very long goods trains. When Thomas went missing after falling into a sinkhole, Jack helped find him, and when Sodor was celebrating the anniversary of Sodor's first railway line, he was one of the engines who helped renovate the Ffarquhar Branch Line. After this, he took on a job as a Vicarstown shunter and freight engine and occasionally helped Thomas teach new station pilots for Knapford Station how to arrange a train. He also sometimes helped Arthur double-head the express when the other engines were busy. He has yet to be withdrawn from service, and with the current flawless state of the North Western Railway, that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

- Jack was originally painted crimson, as shown with his unpainted wheels.
- Jack's fireman shares his name.
- Even though Arthur is related to Jack, they never met up in the past.
- He prefers the Red Express Coaches over the green ones.
- Sudrian history is very interesting to him.
- Jack, along with Arthur, are the only tank engines on Sodor (not counting Duck and Stepney, because Stepney is from the Bluebell Railway) to successfully pull the Express.
- In a survey for the most popular North Western engine, Jack was voted 4th behind Thomas, Gordon and Percy because of his excellent freight services.
- According to him, Jack has crimson wheels because his creator didn't paint over his undercoat (a crimson undercoat at that) because he didn't have enough paint.
- Jack is fond of road vehicles, especially Algy.
- He hasn't had an accident where he came off the rails yet.
- He slept in Knapford Shed before being moved to Great Waterton, and later a small shed behind Tidmouth Sheds which he shares with Arthur, BoCo and occasionally a visiting engine from the Mainland.
- Jack is the only known engine to have read Branch Line Engines, as his builder read it aloud while he was being built.
- Jack's short temper was inspired by Ten Cents from TUGS, because Ten Cents has a bit of a snappy attitude too.
